Originally built in 1968, The Torontonian is one of our older builds in our portfolio of purpose-built rentals. Now boasting at 28 storeys of bachelor, one- and two-bedroom units, The Torontonian stands as an example of the elegant style of apartment living in Vogue during the 1960s. The purpose of our lobby renovation project at The Torontonian was to enhance the functionality and design of the lobby while still honouring The Torontonian's iconic history, so we're proud to be recognized for our hard work!
It was important to preserve as much of the original material in The Torontonian to pay tribute to the property's historical identity. At the same time, we also wanted to bring in more modern design elements that would promote the health and wellness of the environment and our residents, such as retrofitting all the lights to become environmentally friendly. Here at Shiplake, we strive to continue looking at ways our communities can positively impact the environment and encourage sustainable living.
The part of the lobby renovation at The Torontonian that we're most proud of is the addition of a living plant wall by Respira. The self-sustaining vertical garden, which uses the natural science of biofiltration and the principles behind the biophilic design, beautifully breathes new life into the lobby. There are many benefits of incorporating biophilic design into homes, such as improving indoor air quality, supporting longevity, reducing stress, boosting productivity, and promoting a sense of calm and healing. We are happy to be able to provide our residents with this new installation that is gorgeous to look at and betters their overall health and happiness.
